The Torres del Paine National Park, where the celebrated group of three granite towers is found, presents our travellers with an extraordinary spectacle, to the point of being considered the eighth wonder of the world. From the motorcyclist’s viewpoint it offers the possibility of riding round an unpaved loop which makes this experience more intense and complete. Once we return to Chile from Ruta 40, we reach on the motorbikes right to the heart of the National Park, all of which can be covered by motorbike, following an unpaved layout in perfect condition and of easy technical level.
The road layout covers around 200 kilometres of tranquil riding, entering an enchanted landscape, among mountains, waterfalls, lakes, with water that changes colour, enclosed in enormous meadows. In these meadows are found guanacos, by now so accustomed to human presence that they are even willing to be approached.
The vegetation grows luxuriantly throughout the whole Park, with the Torres del Paine towering above the two hundred kilometres of road, and a natural environment that passses from deciduous forest to the pre-Andes scrubland, the Patagonian steppe, and the rocky desert. During the ride, we are often able to contemplate the view from the so-called ‘miradores’, a series of particularly evocative viewpoints from which to admire the granite towers, the waterfalls and lakes, and the grazing guanacos.
It is, however, important to consider that, over and above the naturalistic value and the fascination of the landscape, this route also allows one to live through an extraordinary mororcyclist experience: the beauty of the road, united to the thrill of being able to cross the Torres del Paine National Park in the saddle of your own motorbike and have in front of you the impressive majesty of the Towers surrounded by such wonderful scenery, is a truly incomparable emotion that on its own makes the whole trip worth while.
