During our Machu Picchu and Uyuni Salt Flats Motorcycle Tour we will alternate fantastic climbs on the high-altitude Andean hairpin bends with cultural immersions in the most picturesque places in South America. This tour boasts a large amount of cultural experiences, allowing us to experience first-hand the millenary Inca culture and the still living culture of the Quechua and Aymara populations.
The combination of culture and landscapes of the Andean peaks is represented by the Uyuni Salt Flats, a white expanse located at 3,660 m on the Bolivian plateau and with an area of 10,500 km², famous throughout the world as it represents a third of the planet’s lithium reserves and contains significant quantities of potassium, boron and magnesium. This wonderful and unique setting will be our base for the two days we will dedicate to exploring it by motorbike.
We will spend the night in a hotel built entirely of salt and from here we will leave in the early hours of the morning to go over 100 km inside the Salar, heading towards the Isla del Pescado where we will take a short photographic excursion on foot and have lunch surrounded by the infinite white of this expanse of salt inhabited by cacti and guanacos.
Before returning to the village of Colchani (where our hotel is located) we will direct our motorcycles towards the mummy caves and admire these findings dating back 3,000 years. From the height from which the cave is accessed it will be possible to admire the Salar de Uyuni from a privileged perspective and, descending on a dirt path, we will return to the white mantle on which we will return to the hotel.
The Uyuni Salt Flats were also one of the stages of the 2015 Dakar Rally, specifically in stage number 8, which saw the riders engaged from Uyuni to Iquique for a total of 781 km of dirt road.
For two days, our Riders will have the opportunity to tackle the sand at a sustained speed and challenge this terrain made up of soft, diamond-shaped reliefs where the ground becomes rough and abrasive. They will also be able to tour by motorbike the most hidden and mysterious points of interest in this infinite expanse of salt, such as the caves with mummies that are more than 3,000 years old and the Isla del Pescado, named after its peculiar shape. This island is also characterized by being covered with cacti, some of which can reach 10 meters in height.
Riding a motorbike in the middle of this salt lake is undoubtedly an extraordinary experience, especially when the intense blue of the sky contrasts with the bright white of the salt crust and produces the white-out effect, where the horizon blurs until it disappears and it is almost impossible to differentiate the land from the sky, or when the salt flat is covered with water and the Salar becomes one of the largest mirrors on Earth.
Ride True ADV invites all motorcycle enthusiasts to follow us on the next Moto Tour Machu Picchu and Uyuni Salt Flats and live a one-of-a-kind experience made up of many exciting scenarios and unforgettable motorcycle experiences.
